On Wednesday, newly appointed Arizona State Representative Devin Del Palacio (LD19) was sworn in by Maricopa County Superior Court Judge James Drake.

The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors appointed Del Palacio to fill the Arizona House of Representatives vacancy in Legislative District 19 left by former Rep. Diego Espinoza, who resigned in September to lobby for SRP.

Del Palacio currently serves on the Tolleson Union High School District Governing Board and as Chairman of the National Black Council of School Board Members. He is a life-long Arizona resident who has been recognized by the City of Phoenix and the Arizona School Board Association for his work to create equitable schools and safe neighborhoods.

The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors selected Del Palacio from a list of three candidates submitted by a citizen’s panel they appointed, in accordance with Arizona law. The candidates had to live in the district and be a member of the same party as the person who vacated the office. In this case, a Democrat.

Devin Del Palacio will serve through the remainder of the term. This position is on the ballot in the November 8, 2022 General Election.
