Phoenix Police officers were dispatched to a subject with a knife call at a business near 71st Avenue and Sherman Street. When officers arrived, they were led to a man who was bleeding heavily and suffered multiple cuts to various parts of his body.

Witnesses told officers the suspect, later identified as 28-year-old Kendis Randles, was still inside the business and has barricaded himself inside an office. The information provided to officers said Randles was an employee of the victim. Officers evacuated the building and blocked off the surrounding area.

Officers communicated with Randles as additional resources arrived which included less-lethal tools, Crisis Intervention Teams, and the Special Assignment’s Unit. Ultimately, Randles came out and was detained. He was cleared by the fire department and take to the police station for processing.

The victim was taken to the hospital where he was rushed into surgery. The victim is expected to survive his injuries but will require additional surgeries and long-term care. He remains in stable condition.

Randles was interviewed and admitted to intentional cutting the victim with the intent to kill him. Randles was booked on one count of Attempted First Degree Murder.
