Phoenix Police Department detectives are investigating a drowning of a toddler that was pulled from a bathtub.

Phoenix Police officers were dispatched to a check welfare call at an apartment near 27th Avenue and Glenrosa Avenue. When they arrived, they found an unresponsive toddler in the care of a man who was identified as the boyfriend of the child’s mother. The victim was rushed to the hospital where she died.

Detectives learned the man was caring for the victim and her 3 other young siblings. During this time, the man stepped away from the victim while she was in the bathtub and left one of the siblings in care of her.

The man was later alerted by one of the children that something was wrong with the victim. The man found the victim unresponsive in the bathtub, pulled her out, and called 911.

The investigation remains active and awaits the findings of the medical exam performed by the Office of the Medical Examiner.
