A 24-year-old man, Damoin Obrian Walters, is in custody after he fired multiple guns shots while Phoenix police officers struggled to take him into custody after a fight call.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, early Tuesday morning, on October 25, 2022, officers were called to an apartment complex in the area of 1600 East Morten Avenue. After they got to the complex, they spoke with Walters and a adult female related to the fight call.

The officer speaking with Walters ordered him to take his hand out of his pocket a number of times. Walters refused. The officer then struggled with Walters, which resulted in a gun going off while still in his pocket. The struggle continued as the officer was trying to take Walters into custody. During the fight, Walters fired several more rounds.

The other officer on scene used his taser. Both officers were then able to take Walters into custody. Walters was booked into the Maricopa County Jail.

Both officers suffered minor injuries during this incident and were taken to the hospital to be checked out.
