Detectives Link Phoenix Light Rail Shooter To Homicide

On Wednesday evening, on October 26, 2022 Fahim Matar was booked into the Maricopa County jail for a homicide that occurred on October 21, 2022 near a bust stop at 35th Avenue and Bethany Home Road.

Last Friday night, officers responded to a call of a shooting near 35th Avenue and Bethany Home Road. A man later identified as Foday Kamara was found with gunshot wounds. He was transported to the hospital where he later died.

The suspect left the area before police arrived.

The next morning, on Saturday October 22, 2022 a man, later identified as Fahim Matar was arrested for shooting an adult male on the light rail near 1st Avenue and Van Buren Street.

Matar was booked into jail on several weapon charges to include aggravated assault.

Detectives continued to work on both crime scenes and were able to connect evidence tying Matar to the homicide that occurred on October 21st.

Matar was transported from jail to Phoenix police headquarters. At the conclusion of the investigation, Matar was booked back into jail on multiple additional charges, to include 1st degree murder.
