Phoenix Police Officer Injured By Driver While Investigating Deadly Collision

Phoenix police detectives responded to the area of 3100 West Southern Avenue to investigate a fatal traffic collision that left a 25-year-old female pedestrian dead on scene. 

Just before midnight on November 15, 2022, Phoenix police responded to a call of a vehicle collision involving a pedestrian later identified as 25-year-old Nakita Lupe, crossing midblock on Southern Avenue near 31st Avenue. The adult female driver involved was traveling eastbound on Southern Avenue when the collision occurred. The driver stayed on scene and was evaluated for impairment; however, no indications were seen.  

Nakita Lupe was later pronounced deceased on scene by the Phoenix Fire Department.

Detectives responded to the scene to take over the investigation.   

During the continued investigation a separate collision occurred where an adult male driver struck an occupied Phoenix Police Patrol car, injuring the officer inside. The officer was taken to a local hospital where he was seen for minor injuries. The driver was identified as 21-year-old Dai Zhawn Harris and was booked into Maricopa County Jail.
