Suspect In Phoenix Police Officer Involved Shooting Killed Himself

The suspect in an officer involved shooting has been identified as 34-year-old Enrique Alcarez.

Phoenix police detectives are investigating the officer involved shooting that occurred after a vehicle pursuit with Alcarez.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, officers were in the area of 3rd Street and Southern Avenue when they saw a vehicle matching the description of a car involved in an armed robbery earlier in the day.

The officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but it continued to drive away. The officers went into pursuit with the vehicle until it crashed into a metal fence in a residential property at 18th Street and Southern Avenue. The officers gave the man, Alcarez, and a woman inside the car multiple commands to show their hands. Alcarez displayed a firearm and that is when the officer involved shooting occurred.

After the shooting, officers moved up and detained the female passenger. Officers used a less-lethal tool in order to encourage Alcarez to show his hands. After no response, the officers moved up and found a firearm inside the vehicle along with the deceased Alcarez’s gunshot wounds were self-inflicted. Alcarez’s gunshot wounds were self-inflicted.

The investigation remains active. There were no injuries to officers or any other community members.
