Man Armed With Knife Shot By Phoenix Police Officers

Phoenix police detectives are investigating an officer involved shooting that resulted in one adult male being shot. He was taken to a local hospital in stable condition with serious injuries.   

Officers were dispatched to a subject threatening people with a knife in the area of 27th Avenue and Thomas Road.  

Officers arrived in the area and saw an adult male who matched the description of the individual from the call. Officers stopped their vehicle near the man and began ordering him to drop the knife he was holding. One of the officers used a less-lethal launcher and fired one impact round at the man in an attempt to have him comply. The man continued to run west along Thomas Road.  

Officers ran after the man while giving commands to stop and put the knife down. While chasing after the man, multiple attempts with the less-lethal launcher were used to gain the man’s compliance. All attempts with the less-lethal tools were unsuccessful.  

The man continued to run as he turned south on 29th Avenue towards an occupied vehicle at which point the officer involved shooting occurred.  

The man was detained and provide medical aid on scene. Phoenix Fire Department took the man to a local hospital where he is currently in stable condition with serious injuries. 

No officers or community members were injured during this incident.
