Dispute Leads To Shooting Death In Central Phoenix

Phoenix police detectives are investigating a fatal shooting involving two men that happened in the evening hours on Wednesday in the area of 2nd Avenue and McKinley Street.

Phoenix police officers were dispatched to a shooting call near 600 North 2nd Avenue. When they arrived the found a man, later identified as 39-year-old Ricardo Martinez, on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds. The officers provided aide until the fire department arrived and transported Ricardo to the hospital. He later died from his injuries.

Homicide detectives responded to investigate the shooting. After speaking to witnesses and examining the crime scene, they learned there was an argument between Ricardo and an adult male when the shooting occurred. Ricardo was the only person struck by gunfire and the other adult male left the area before police arrived. He later returned and was questioned by detectives.

No arrests have been made in this investigation. The case will be submitted to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office for review.
