Phoenix Police

A man is accused of shooting at two Jack in the Box employees, killing one in north Phoenix late Thursday night.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, on December 8, 2022, just before 10:30 p.m., officers responded to a shooting at the Jack in the Box near 1800 West Bell Road. When officers arrived, they found a man, later identified as 19-year-old Jorge Valenzuela Ramirez, and a 22-year-old female, both with gunshot wounds. The victims were transported to a local hospital.

Mr. Ramirez did not survive his injuries. The female victim sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Homicide detectives believe that a fight occurred at the drive through window between two employees of the restaurant and another man. During this fight, the man fired multiple rounds into the restaurant, resulting each of the victims being hit with gunfire. The suspect took off from the scene.

Later Christopher Candia contacted Phoenix police and turned himself in stating he was the suspect in the shooting. Candia was booked into jail on several charges to include murder. The specifics as to what led up to the shooting are still part of an ongoing investigation.
