Young Phoenix Child Suffers Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound

Phoenix Police Department detectives are investigating an accidental shooting that sent a young child to the hospital in critical condition.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, officers were dispatched to a shots fired call at an apartment complex near 19th Avenue and Indian School Road. When they arrived, the officers found a young child with a gunshot wound. The fire department responded and rushed the child to a nearby hospital.

Detectives believe that the child was able to get ahold of a firearm inside the apartment. While handling the firearm the gun went off and the child was stuck. No one else inside the apartment was injured.

The child is currently at the hospital in stable condition.
