Yuma County Sheriff’s Office Investigates Possible Impairment As Factor In Serious Collision

The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office is investigating possible impairment as the cause of a collision that sent a juvenile to the hospital.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, on Sunday, January 15, 2023, at approximately 2:33 a.m., deputies responded to a report of a single vehicle collision in the area of Somerton Avenue and County 8th Street.

The initial investigation revealed a silver 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling southbound on Somerton Avenue, when the driver lost control of the vehicle and collided into an APS pole.

One juvenile occupant was ejected from the vehicle and was airlifted to a Phoenix area hospital due to life-threatening injuries.

Three other occupants did not sustain serious injuries.

The Sheriff’s Office says alcohol appears to be a factor in this collision.
