Officers with the Casa Grande Police Department have arrested 18 -year-old Kyren Lee Antone for the possession of a firearm on the campus of Casa Grande Union High School. Antone is registered as a senior student at the school.

According to the Casa Grande Police Department (CGPD), shortly before noon, Casa Grande Union High School (CGUHS) administration notified CGPD that they believed a student may have a handgun in his backpack. When they became aware of the situation, the school administration and security immediately separated the student from the general student body and took custody of the backpack. CGPD was immediately contacted, responded, and took custody of the weapon and the student.

The weapon was a Glock handgun with an extended magazine containing several rounds of ammunition.

CGPD says there is no evidence there was any display of the weapon, nor any threat to use it. It is currently unknown why the student was in possession of the firearm or where and how it was acquired.

CGUHS and CGPD have no reason to believe any other student was placed in any danger, other than the fact the firearm was on campus and in the student’s backpack.

Kyren Antone was arrested, processed at the Casa Grande Police Department, and booked into the Pinal County Adult Detention Center. A charge of Misconduct with a Weapon will be forwarded to the Casa Grande City Attorney’s Office for review.

Casa Grande Police Chief McCrory praised “the fast response of school officials and staff in responding to this situation and bringing a quick resolution to a what could have resulted in a very serious situation.”
