Woman Killed In Hit-And Run Near 34th Avenue and Bethany Home Road

A Phoenix pedestrian, Norma Nichols, has passed away from injuries she sustained in a hit and run that occurred earlier this week.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, officers responded to the area of 34th Avenue and Bethany Home Road to investigate a vehicle collision involving a pedestrian in the early morning hours of January 19, 2023. When officers arrived, they found the 38-year-old Ms. Nichols suffering from serious injuries on the ground.

Phoenix Fire personal responded and took Ms. Nichols to a local hospital where she later died of her injuries.

Officers learned from witness that the suspect vehicle was driving eastbound on Bethany Home Road when it struck Ms. Nichols. Ms. Nichols is believed to have been attempting to walk across Bethany Home Road from the south to the north outside any marked crosswalks. After the collision took place, the suspect vehicle was seen driving away from the scene eastbound on Bethany Home Road.

The suspect in this case is still outstanding as Detectives continue following up on all leads to identify and arrest the person responsible.
