Home Security Camera Alerts Prescott Homeowners To Burglar From Phoenix

A man wanted in Maricopa County was arrested in Prescott after a security camera alerted a homeowner to a break-in.

According to the Prescott Police Department, on January 25, at approximately 6:43 a.m., Prescott police officers responded to the 500 block of Glenwood Avenue due to a report of a possible burglary in progress.

Officers learned that the homeowner had called reporting that while nobody was home at the time, they were able to monitor a real time video showing a male suspect attempting to make entry into the home.

When officers arrived on the scene, officers immediately began to search the exterior of the residence. During the exterior search, officers found the door to the basement unsecured. Officers entered and immediately encountered the suspect, identified as Stephen Diel inside. He taken into custody without incident.

The 36-year-old Diel said that he had previously done some work on the residence and had entered in attempt to find a place to stay warm.

Diel was booked into jail on a charge of burglary. Additionally he was booked on a felony warrant out of Maricopa County for failure to appear on an aggravated DUI charge.
