On Thursday afternoon, Cottonwood Police officers arrested a 13-year-old student after he made threats towards several classmates.

The 13-year-old and the involved victims in this case are all students of Mountain View Preparatory School (MVP). It was reported by MVP teachers that multiple students reported the boy making threats directed at them saying, “you’re on my kill-list.” Following this, a teacher overheard students asking the 13-year-old student if they too were on his “list.”

Officers met with the students and school staff involved. It was during these interviews that officers learned that the 13-year-old student was making statements about those students who were, and were not on this “kill-list.” The 13-year-old student said he had no real intention to do harm at the school.

At this time officers have no evidence to support there is a physical list.

The 13-year-old student was arrested and is being held at the Yavapai County Juvenile Detention Center on charges of: Threatening or Intimidating, Interference or Disruption of an Educational Institution, and Making a Terroristic Threat.

“The Cottonwood Police Department wants to thank the Cottonwood Oak Creek School District for the collaborative response with this incident. We also want to remind parents to discuss with their children that ANY threat of violence at our schools will be taken serious by school administration and law enforcement. These situations are frustrating and it is critically important that parents, teachers and students feel safe,” said Police Spokesperson Sergeant Chad Sinn.
