Suspect In Murder And Assault On Intel Employees Used Baseball Bat

An Arizona man, Derrick Lemond Simmons, used a baseball bat and other weapons to murder and injure two coworkers in the cafeteria of an Intel building, on Saturday.

According to the Chandler Police Department, officers arrived at the Intel plant near Dobson and Ocotillo Roads at about 6:15 a.m. and found one person “who was fatally injured from what appears to be blunt-force trauma.”

The deceased has been identified as 49-year-old Dan Foster. The employee who was injured while trying to intervene in the attack has been identified as 27-year-old Jaron Williams. Williams was found suffering from non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital.

Police found the 50-year-old Simmons in front of the building carrying two duffle bags.

Simmons, was taken into custody at the scene and booked into the Maricopa County jail on first-degree murder and aggravated assault charges.
