Tucson Man Sentenced For Failed Attempt To Smuggle Ammunition Into Mexico

A Tucson man, Victor Acosta, was sentenced on Monday to 24 months in prison after pleading guilty to one count of Smuggling Goods from the United States.

Acosta’s sentence is to be followed by three years of supervised release.

According to the Department of Justice, on March 23, 2022, Acosta attempted to exit the United States and enter Mexico at the Mariposa Port of Entry in Nogales, Arizona. During a search of his vehicle, Customs and Border Protection officers found 19,000 rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition and 3,000 rounds of .223 caliber ammunition.

Acosta admitted that he had the ammunition in his vehicle.
