Phoenix Police Investigating Fatal Collision Involving Pedestrian

A pedestrian in a crosswalk is dead after an early morning collision involving two vehicles near 2400 West Northern Avenue.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, just before 6:00 a.m., on March 23, 2023, Phoenix police responded to a call of a collision involving two vehicles and pedestrian. Preliminary information indicates the first vehicle was going north on the Interstate 17 off ramp attempting to make a right turn onto Northern Avenue. The vehicle did not yield to traffic driving on a green arrow from southbound Interstate 17 overpass, making a left turn onto Northern Avenue. Two cars collided. The vehicle making the right turn spun and left the roadway striking 60-year-old Julian Ibarra, who was on the sidewalk. 

Mr. Ibarra was transported to the hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Impairment is not believed to be a factor with either driver.
