Phoenix homicide detectives are investigating a shooting that left an adult man dead inside an apartment at 14830 North Black Canyon Access Road late Tuesday night.
Phoenix officers responded to a shooting call at 11:21 p.m. on March 28, 2023. When officers got to the scene, they detained an adult man involved in the shooting. While checking the inside of the apartment, officers found a second adult man, Treyvon Simons, age 23, with an apparent gunshot wound.
The Phoenix Fire Department responded and took Mr. Simons to a local hospital where he did not survive his injuries.
Detectives learned that the detained man shot Mr. Simons during a fight and provided detectives a self-defense claim. The man was later released from police custody.
This investigation will be submitted to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office for further review.
