Police Make Arrest In Deadly Central Phoenix Shooting

Phoenix police detectives are investigating a shooting that left one woman dead and a juvenile seriously injured inside a restaurant.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, officers were dispatched to an emergency call of a shots fired inside a restaurant at 19th Avenue and Buckeye Road. When they arrived, they found a woman and a juvenile female inside the business suffering from gunshot wounds. The fire department responded and rushed the juvenile to the hospital with serious injuries. The woman, later identified as 25-year-old Maria Ledesma Ramirez, died from her injuries on scene.

After speaking to witnesses and reviewing surveillance, officers learned the victims were employees of the restaurant and the suspect was Ledesma Ramirez’s ex-boyfriend, Gerardo Vazquez Alvarez. Detectives from the Homicide Unit responded to investigate the shooting and were able to conduct surveillance and locate Vazquez Alvarez. Vazquez Alvarez was taken into custody, south of the Phoenix area, after his vehicle was disabled by officers from the Special Assignments Unit.

Vasquez Alvarez was interviewed and admitted to his involvement in the shooting. He will be booked into the Maricopa County Jail for multiple felony charges to include First Degree Murder and Attempted Murder.

The juvenile victim remains in the hospital in stable condition.
