Phoenix Police Investigating Deadly Collision Caused By Red Light Runner

Phoenix detectives are investigating a collision involving four vehicles that took the life of a 21-year-old woman.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, on April 16, 2023, officers responded to a collision involving four vehicles near 51st Avenue and the Interstate 10 overpass.

Neiva Bejarano Zavala was pronounced deceased on scene.

Detectives responded to take over the investigation. Early information indicates a car going east on the 51st Avenue off ramp is believed to have run the red light at the intersection and was struck by a car going south on 51st Avenue. Both vehicles then crashed into a third and fourth vehicle.

The driver of the first car was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. There were two people in the second vehicle. Ms. Bejarano Zavala died on scene, the other transported with serious injuries. A person from the third vehicle was treated on scene by the fire department with minor injuries. The driver of the fourth vehicle was not injured.
