Casa Grande Woman Allegedly Fatally Struck Boyfriend With Car

A Casa Grande woman was arrested after for allegedly killing her boyfriend with her vehicle on Saturday morning.

According to the Casa Grande Police Department, 51-year-old Shelly Shears was arrested after an investigation involving a domestic dispute leading to a fatal collision. The victim is Shears’ boyfriend 59-year-old local Billy Stephens.

On May 20, 2023, at approximately 8:38 a.m., officers responded to a motor vehicle versus pedestrian collision in the 600 block of West Saguaro Street. When they arrived, officers discovered Stephens, lying near the roadway suffering from what appeared to be significant trauma. Shears was on scene near the victim.

Mr. Stephens was flown to a Phoenix area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Casa Grande Police Department Detectives and the Critical Accident Investigation Team took over the investigation. Detectives discovered significant evidence to determine Shears and Stephens were in a verbal argument prior to her striking him with her vehicle.

Shears was booked into the Pinal County Adult Detention Center and charges of 2nd Degree Murder.
