Mesa Police Arrest Suspect In Shootings, 4 Killed 1 Injured

Phoenix Police Department detectives have made an arrest in a shooting that left a man dead along the canal near 24th and Oak Streets. The suspect in that case was later identified Iren Byers and connected to multiple shootings in Mesa.

Phoenix Police officers were dispatched to a call of a man, later identified as 41-year-old Nicholas Arnstad, deceased next to the canal. Detectives processed the crime scene, collected evidence, and attempted to locate witnesses.

After the initial investigation, detectives learned there were other homicides that occurred in Mesa, involving a suspect with a similar description. The evidence from the multiple scenes were examined which resulted in linking each case to the 20-year-old Byers.

Byers was located and arrested by Mesa Police Department officers on Saturday evening in Mesa. He later interviewed and confessed to his involvement in the shootings to include the murder of Arnstad.

Byers was booked by Mesa PD on 4 counts of 1st Degree Murder and 1 count of 1st Degree
Attempted Murder related to the shootings in Mesa and Phoenix.
