One Jay-Walker Dead, One Injured In Early Morning Collision In Phoenix

Phoenix police detectives are investigating a collision involving a vehicle and two pedestrians that occurred Tuesday morning that left one pedestrian dead.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, on July 11, 2023 at 4:45 a.m., officers responded to a call of a collision near 51st Avenue and Glenrosa Avenue. A woman was found in the roadway suffering serious injuries. She was transported to the hospital where she later died. She was identified as 41-year-old Tyretta Yazzie.

Another pedestrian was contacted who had minor injuries from the collision but was not transported to the hospital. The vehicle involved in the collision remained on scene.

Detectives believe that a man and a woman attempted to walk across 51st Avenue mid-block. A car going south on 51st Avenue attempted to avoid the pedestrians by serving and applying braking; however, the car collided with the woman pedestrian and grazed the man.

The driver of the car was not injured, and impairment is not believed to be a factor.
