On Wednesday night, Phoenix Police Department detectives arrested a man in the shooting death of 23-year-old Sixto Gomez-Zurito in north Phoenix.
According to the department, officers were called to a shooting at an apartment complex located at 14221 North 51st Avenue on July 12, 2023, just after 6:00 p.m. When officers arrived on the scene, they found Gomez-Zurito suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Gomez-Zurito was taken to a hospital where he did not survive his injuries.
Ignacio Alvarez, age 23, was detained on scene by patrol officers after he acknowledged
involvement in the shooting. Alvarez was interviewed by responding detectives and later booked into Maricopa County jail for second degree murder.
