Hit-And-Run Suspect Killed In Shooting With Phoenix Police

Phoenix police detectives are investigating an officer involved shooting that occurred
Monday evening along the railroad tracks near 18th and Harrison Streets.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, officers responded to a hit and run call in the area of 7th and Lincoln Streets. When they arrived, officers found an unoccupied vehicle with spent shell casings inside the passenger compartment. A witness provided officers with a suspect description and the direction he was last seen.

Officers searched the surrounding area and was directed by another witness who saw the suspect walking along the railroad tracks. Officers drove to the area near 18th and Harrison Streets and found a man matching the suspect’s description. The department says the suspect was acting erratically and did not follow officer’s commands. A less-lethal tool was used to encourage the suspect to comply, but it was ineffective.

As officers continued to negotiate, the suspect pulled out a gun from his person and pointed it at officers. This was when the officer involved shooting occurred.

The suspect, Armando Reyes, age 35, was struck therefore officers moved up and provided aid to the suspect until the fire department arrived. He later died from his injuries on scene.

The investigation remains active. There were no injuries to officers or any other community members.
