Former Arizona State Representative Shawnna Bolick has been unanimously appointed by the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors to serve as the next Senator to represent Legislative District 2.

Bolick’s appointment comes in the wake of former Senator Steve Kaiser resigning from his seat back in June, after serving at the Legislature for several years.

“I look forward to honorably serving my constituents as I re-enter public service at a time we have divided government,” Bolick told the Arizona Daily Independent. “I am ready to get to work for Arizonans and to push back against Bidenomics to keep Arizona on a prosperous track.”

Bolick served at the Legislature from 2018 to 2022, before leaving office to run for Secretary of State. During that time, she was an advocate of strengthening Arizona’s education system, supporting teachers, and recognizing the individual learning needs of students. She worked to limit government, build a better business climate for Arizona, protect free market principles, support public safety, and secure the border.

“We believe Ms. Bolick will be an incredible asset to her constituents, Maricopa County and the state as a whole,” said Senate President Warren Petersen. “Her experience in working with lawmakers of all backgrounds for the common good of our citizens will be a valuable resource to our Caucus as we continue our mission to keep Arizona a free state from the heavy hand of excessive government control. We thank Senator Kaiser for his passion and efforts in tackling some of the toughest issues our state is facing, and we are certain Ms. Bolick will be able to pick up right where he left off.”

Bolick will be sworn into office this Friday afternoon.
