Mexican Smuggler Sentenced For Smuggling Weapons And Ammo From U.S.

A Mexican man, Jorge Alexis Hernandez-Martinez, was sentenced to 36 months in prison after pleading guilty to Conspiracy to Smuggle Goods from the United States.

Hernandez-Martinez and his co-conspirators obtained firearms and ammunition from licensed firearms dealers within Arizona with the intent to smuggle them into Mexico. In January 2020, Hernandez-Martinez and his co-conspirators obtained 6,800 rounds of 9mm ammunition, which are designated on the United States Commerce Control List as prohibited by law for export from the United States into Mexico without a valid license.

Neither Hernandez-Martinez nor any other individual involved in the conspiracy to export firearms and ammunition had a license or any other lawful authority to export them from the United States into Mexico.
