Phoenix police are investigating an officer involved shooting that happened in the area of 33rd Avenue and Campo Bello Drive on Tuesday.
According to the Phoenix Police Department, officers responded to a subject with a gun call at about 3:32 p.m. on August 1, 2023. The 911 caller said man was waving a gun while a second person was nearby. When officers got to the area, they saw the two suspects matching the description given on the call, sitting on a short landscape wall. As the patrol car stopped, the passenger officer got out as one of the suspects began running towards him holding a firearm. It was at this time the officer involved shooting occurred.
The as yet unnamed suspect suffered a gunshot wound and was taken to the hospital by the Fire Department with life-threatening-injuries. The second suspect was detained by officers and found to be in possession of a firearm. The second firearm was recovered on scene.
The incident is still under investigation.
