The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office was busy responding to two separate stabbing incidents over the weekend.

According to the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO), on Friday August 3rd at approximately 9:00 p.m., deputies responded to a residence in Cottonwood for a reported stabbing. Wanda Derby reportedly began fighting with two people at the home, including striking one man in the face breaking his glasses and kicking a woman in the leg.

A third man tried to stop Derby from any further violence by restraining her from the back, but she still managed to stab him in the arm. The stabbing victim was treated for minor injuries and Derby was arrested and booked for Aggravated Assault and other related charges.

Then on on Saturday night at 9:00 p.m., deputies responded to the report of a stabbing at a residence in Cordes Lakes. The report stated that a woman, Carla Curtiss, 42 years old, had stabbed her ex-boyfriend’s new girlfriend, but had left the scene. However, while deputies were enroute to the home, YCSO 911 received a call from Curtiss saying she had been assaulted and was waiting at the residence.

When deputies arrived, they found Curtiss outside her vehicle and placed her under arrest. The victim was on her porch bleeding from multiple stab wounds. Mayer Fire was called and began to treat her. She was eventually transported to Deer Valley North for care and is in stable condition.

The two women apparently had a dispute about Curtiss being at the Zaragoza home and the dispute turned physical with Curtiss producing a knife and stabbing the victim.

Curtiss was arrested and booked on Attempted First Degree Murder, Aggravated Assault, Disorderly Conduct with a Weapon, Endangerment and Trespassing in the First Degree all per Domestic Violence.
