Overnight Collision In Phoenix Leaves Man Dead

Phoenix Police detectives have booked a man after they took over the investigation into an overnight collision that left another man dead.

On August 12, 2023, around 3:15 a.m. officers responded to the area of 51st Avenue and Buckeye Road regarding a collision involving three vehicles. When they arrived, officers located an adult male, identified as 63-year-old Fermin Ruiz Gutierrez, with serious injuries. Ruiz Gutierrez was transported to a local hospital where he did not survive these injuries and was pronounced deceased. The two adult male drivers of the two other vehicles involved remained on scene. One of these men was identified as 28-year-old Alejandro Carrillo Jr., who showed signs of impairment on scene. He was processed for DUI as part of the investigation.

Detectives responded to take over the investigation. Preliminary information suggests that Carrillo was driving his vehicle northbound on 51st Avenue approaching Buckeye Road when he struck victim Ruiz Gutierrez’s vehicle which was stopped facing northbound at the red light at Buckeye Road.

Carrillo’s vehicle continued to travel northbound until it struck another vehicle which was facing southbound and also stopped at the red light at 51st Avenue and Buckeye Road.

Carrillo was booked in jail on several charges to include manslaughter, endangerment and DUI.
