Suspect Arrested In Phoenix Police Officer Involved Shooting

After being treated at a local hospital and released, a suspect in an officer involved shooting, identified as 21-year-old Devin Thompson, was booked on multiple charges to include aggravated assault and weapons violations.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, the officer involved shooting happened in the area of 33rd Avenue and Campo Bello Drive on August 1 when officers responded to a subject with a gun call at about 3:32 p.m.

Details on the 911 call said man was waving a gun while a second man was nearby. When officers got to the area, they saw the two suspects matching the description given on the call, sitting on a short landscape wall. As the patrol car stopped, the passenger officer got out as one of the suspects, Thompson, began running towards him holding a firearm. It was at this time the officer involved shooting occurred.

Thompson suffered a gunshot wound and was taken to the hospital by the Fire Department with life-threatening injuries.

The second suspect was detained by officers and found to be in possession of a
firearm. The second firearm was recovered on scene.
