Three Juveniles Detained For “Intentional” Hit-And Run In Stolen KIA

emergency

Three teenaged juveniles have been detained by Phoenix police officers in connection with the hit and run aggravated assault of a 71-year-old pedestrian struck by a stolen vehicle on Thursday morning.

Phoenix police detectives are investigating the serious collision that occurred near 3700 West Aire Libre Avenue.

Just before 6:00 a.m., a white KIA Optima struck the 71-year-old male who was out walking in the area. The car then collided with other vehicles and crashed into a structure.

The vehicle occupants fled the scene on foot.

The man suffered serious injury and was transported to the hospital.

Detectives believe that the aggravated assault was intentional, and this vehicle was the subject of numerous earlier calls for service describing the occupants throwing rocks at pedestrians in the area.

Police were able to identify the subjects involved through surveillance video.  All
three are juveniles under the age of fifteen. The driver was detained at the Maricopa County Juvenile Court Center (JCC), and charges on the other two involved were referred to JCC. They were then released to parents.
