Carjacker Of Ride Share Vehicle Killed By Phoenix Police Officers In Glendale

A 26-year-old alleged carjacker is dead following an officer involved shooting by Phoenix Police Department officers in Glendale near 8700 West Glendale Avenue on Saturday night.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, on September 9, 2023, Phoenix Police officers were called out to an aggravated assault near 8500 West Indian School Road.

Officers learned that the victim, a ride share employee was robbed of his car at gun point. Patrol officers gathered information from the victim and confirmed that the vehicle did have GPS tracking capabilities. The car was found in a neighborhood near 8700 West Glendale Avenue. Officers were able to identify a house in the neighborhood that the suspect was seen going into. Containment was established on the house, and during negotiations an adult female came out confirming that the suspect was inside.

Negotiations continued until the man, identified as 26-year-old Robert Crockett, came out and walked to the driveway. As officers were giving commands, he took out a handgun and pointed it at a number of officers. It was at this time that three Phoenix officers fired their duty weapons at Crockett.

Officers noticed a strong order of gas coming from the house, they put on gas masks and cleared the home making the scene safe for medical personal to respond. Fire personal pronounced Crockett deceased on scene.

The Glendale Police department responded and took over this investigation, while Phoenix Police conduct a separate administrative investigation.
