Woman Killed In West Valley Collision

Phoenix Police detectives are investigating a west valley collision that left a woman, Shokriya Raies dead.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, on September 20, 2023, around 5:20 p.m. officers were in the area of 35th Avenue and Tierra Buena Lane when they observed the results of a two-car collision at the intersection. Officers located the three occupants of the vehicles involved, all of which were injured. One adult male driver was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries as was the other driver involved, who is an adult female. A passenger of one of the vehicles, an adult female identified as the 78-year-old Raies, was also transported to a local hospital but with life threatening injuries.

Detectives believe that the vehicle of which Raies was the passenger, was traveling southbound on 35th Avenue. The other vehicle involved was northbound on 35th Avenue and failed to yield the right of way while it attempted to turn west onto Tierra Buena Lane, causing the collision.

Impairment is not believed to be a factor in the collision.
