Former Tucson High Counselor Behind School’s “First Ever Drag Show” Sentenced For Sexual Abuse Of Teen

Zobella Brazil Vinik, the former Tucson High counselor behind the school’s first-ever drag show, has been sentenced to one year in jail for having sex with a student.

In May 2022, the then 29-year-old Vinik was accused of having an inappropriate with a 15-year-old student. It was Vinik’s wife who originally reported the crime to police.

Vinik, who pled guilty to sexual contact with a minor and child abuse, was also sentenced to 15 years probation in addition to the jail time. However, she will not be required to register as a sex offender.

According to AZ FREE News, Vinik also led the LGBTQ+ student club, “Q Space,” in which students learn about LGBTQ+ history and are encouraged to explore their identities.”

Vinik, served as the “educator support lead for Scholarships A-Z (SA-Z), an organization working to help illegal immigrants earn a higher education and relevant educational scholarships,” according to AZ FREE News. “[Zobella] is working to unlearn practices maintained by white supremacy, capitalism, and patriarchy and recommits daily to prioritize mental health, community care, and visions for freedom offered by Queer BIPOC organizers, stated Vinik’s profile.”
