Phoenix Police are investigating a fatal vehicle collision resulting in the death of a young woman and another man in critical condition at the hospital.

Officers responded to a serious vehicle collision at 40th Street and the 202 Freeway. When officers arrived, they found a white passenger vehicle and a gray SUV in a landscaping area just off the intersection. The fire department was on scene and was providing medical aid to three occupants of the white vehicle. Officers located the driver of the SUV who was able to get out of the car after the collision.

The fire department transported all four individuals to the hospital. One of the occupants in the passenger vehicle, 19-year-old Jade Pedro, later died from her injuries at the hospital. The driver of the passenger car remains in the hospital in critical condition. The third occupant of the passenger car and the driver of the SUV were treated and released.

Detectives responded to investigate the collision. Preliminary information suggests the SUV ran a red light while heading eastbound on the 202 Freeway access road and collided with the passenger car that was heading northbound on 40th Street. Impairment appears to be a factor involving the driver of the SUV.

The collision remains under investigation as detectives continue to process the evidence.
