Seven Players Score In Double Figures In Aztecs Women’s Basketball Win

The Pima Community College women’s basketball team (1-0) opened its 2023-24 regular season schedule on Saturday as it took on Community Christian College at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium.

Seven players scored in double figures as the No. 9 ranked Aztecs defeated the Saints 114-25.

The Aztecs outscored Community Christian 31-4 in the first quarter and led 59-9 at halftime. The Aztecs didn’t give up double digit scoring in any of the quarters. Pima shot 52 percent for the game.

Sophomore Dominique Acosta (Nogales HS) led the way with 20 points as she went 9 for 11 from the field and fell short of a double-double with nine rebounds.

Freshman Rori Hoffmeyer (Cibola HS) came off the bench and scored 15 points on 7 for 10 shooting and also added six rebounds, two assists and two blocks. Freshman Gabby Lopez (Bisbee HS) also fell short of a double-double as she posted 14 points and nine rebounds off the bench while fellow freshman Sage Begay (Flagstaff HS) also had 14 points.

Freshman Gabriella Sanchez (Tucson Magnet HS) and sophomore Taina Lee each finished with 12 points while freshman Amelie Buffill-Gutierrez (Sabino HS) posted 11 points on 5 for 7 shooting with four assists. Freshman Rylei Waugh finished with 10 assists.

The Aztecs will play three games as part of the Eastern Arizona Classic from Nov. 9-11 in Thatcher, AZ. They will face off against South Plains College on Thursday at 1:30 p.m.
