arrest

On Thursday night, an escaped prisoner was caught by Phoenix residents at a gas station shortly after he fled from a detention center.

The escapee, Derek Posey, age 29, was being processed for felony warrants when he ran out of the Cactus Park Precinct Thursday night just before 8:00 p.m.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, on December 7, 2023, at about 7:57 p.m., officers were processing Posey, who had outstanding warrants for aggravated assault on a police officer and resisting arrest. During the processing, officers lost sight of him while inside a north Phoenix police station. Posey ran out the back door of the
precinct and away from the area.

Officers established a containment around the precinct and the neighborhood while they conducted a thorough search. At about 8:45 p.m., citizens at a nearby gas station noticed a man in handcuffs, detained him and called police.

He was taken to the hospital for precaution. Pending his release from the hospital, he will be booked into MCSO jail for additional felony charges along with his outstanding warrants.
