Tucson Sector Border Patrol agents apprehended another 18,900 illegal aliens this week. It is the highest weekly total ever recorded in the sector.

According to John R. Modlin, Chief Patrol Agent of the U.S. Border Patrol’s Tucson Sector, along with the apprehensions, agents seized 2 firearms, conducted 15 rescues, and intercepted 10 human smuggling attempts.

This week’s number represented an increase over the prior week, when Tucson Sector agents apprehended 17,500 illegal aliens, which broke the prior record.

On Friday, Governor Katie Hobbs announced she would be finally taking action after the Lukeville Port of Entry was closed to effectively everyone except illegal aliens. The Port was closed to free up agents tasked with processing the massive surge of entrants.

Although she is the commander-in-chief of Arizona’s National Guard and has been called upon to activate them, Hobbs instead punted the matter to Washington D.C. and announced she has asked the Biden administration to do so.
