Yavapai County Sheriff’s officials are warning the public about scam calls from people representing themselves as working for the office and attempting to gain personal information.

Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) says many of the fraudulent calls appear with “Public Service” in the caller ID along with the office’s Civil Division phone number, and the scammer claims to be a YCSO official. The caller says he has “documents and other information” about “ongoing urgent legal matters that require your immediate attention” including arrest warrants for things like missed jury duty. Almost a dozen such calls have been reported to the Sheriff’s Office in the past couple of days.

Officials want the public to know that YCSO will never make such calls and that under no circumstances should anyone give out any type of personal information or provide any type of payment over the phone.

If you receive one of these calls, you are asked to contact the YCSO Fraud Investigations unit at 928-771-3299.
