Suspect Dead After Pulling Gun On Phoenix Police

Phoenix Police detectives are investigating an officer involved shooting that occurred shortly after 11:00, Thursday morning.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, on January 11, 2024, around 11:10 a.m., officers responded to a home in the area of 33rd Street and Taylor Street for a check welfare call. The caller described running water coming out of the house. When officers arrived, they attempted to make contact with any occupants of the house using both the front and back doors. While at the back door, they spoke with a man inside of the home who produced a handgun. An exchange of gunfire occurred between the man and one of the officers on scene.

It is unknown at this time if the man was struck by police gunfire or if it was self-inflicted.

Officers retreated and surrounded the house until members of the Tactical Support Bureau arrived to assist. The man was later found inside the residence with at least one gunshot wound and was pronounced dead on scene.
