Police Investigating Murder Suicide On North Phoenix

crime scene notice

Phoenix police are investigating a shooting where a man shot and killed his girlfriend, then turned the gun on himself.

Phoenix police responded to a domestic violence call at a home near Central Avenue and Union Hills Drive early this morning. Officers received information a man had made statements that he killed his girlfriend and was planning to kill himself.

Officers arrived and positioned themselves around the home. Officers attempted to call out the occupants of the house, both by loudspeaker and cell phone, but there was no answer. Detectives responded to the scene and obtained a search warrant. Officers with the Special Assignments Unit were able to enter the home and located a woman, later identified as 70-year-old Ila Washington, deceased with a gunshot wound. They also found 59-year-old Darryle Mooney deceased with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Homicide investigators processed the scene and spoke to witnesses. Preliminary information suggests Mooney shot and killed Washington, then turned the gun on himself before police arrived.
