A woman is in custody for the death of her elderly roommate in Cordes Lakes.

According to the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 10:00 p.m., on Friday, deputies responded to a request for a welfare check of a man living off Rodeo Drive in Cordes Lakes, only to discover him deceased at the hands of his roommate.

An acquaintance of the victim became concerned after 93-year-old Carl Miller had not been seen nor heard from in a couple of days. Deputies made initial contact at his residence to check on Mr. Miller, and were told by his roommate, 59-year-old Bridget Nelson, that the victim had driven out of town, and she did not know where he was.

The deputy followed up with the initial caller to relay the story told by Bridget Nelson. The initial caller told the deputy that the victim’s truck was still in the driveway, which was apparently inoperable.

Deputies then returned to the residence to question Nelson, but after receiving no response they noticed through a window a man lying on the ground motionless. Deputies ordered Nelson to come out of the home, which she did after several requests.

Detectives and evidence technicians entered the home to find that the victim had been deceased for at least a day and initial evidence showed the victim had died a violent death with his wounds indicating foul play.

Nelson was arrested and booked into the Yavapai County Jail on First Degree Murder.
