Phoenix Police detectives are investigating a south side collision that left one teen dead.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, on February 24, 2024, around 2:50 p.m., officers responded to the area of 40th Street and Baseline Road regarding a collision that resulted in a vehicle fire. When officers arrived, one vehicle was fully engulfed in flames. The Phoenix Fire Department arrived and extinguished the fire.

The lone occupant and driver of the vehicle, identified as 16-year-old Talha Abdel-Rahman, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The adult female driver of the second vehicle involved, and her infant child, were transported to a local hospital for precautionary reasons only. They were not injured in the collision.

Detectives believe Abdel-Rahman was traveling westbound on Baseline Road approaching 40th Street. Abdel-Rahman failed to stop for the red light and collided with the second vehicle in the intersection. Abdel-Rahman’s vehicle then collided with a light pole and immediately caught fire.

Speed is believed to be a factor in this collision.
