Hobbs Vetoes Senate Republican Bill Protecting Arizonans From Border-Related Crimes

veto

In the wake of the vicious murder of Laken Riley by an illegal alien, Governor Katie Hobbs stunned Arizona residents with a veto of a bill that would have provided law enforcement the ability to protect Arizonans from heinous crimes associated with the nation’s insecure border.

Senate Republicans are also condemning Hobbs, calling her veto of Senator Janae Shamp’s bill, SB 1231, known as the Arizona Border Invasion Act, “irresponsible” in light of “Joe Biden’s border invasion.”

Republicans claim that as a direct result of the “federal government’s failure to enforce existing immigration laws, tens of thousands of people illegally enter the United States through the southern Arizona border on a monthly basis, leading to an overwhelming abundance of criminal activity in our communities.”

SB 1231 would have established in Arizona law three border-related crimes with subsequent punishments. Local, county, and state law enforcement officers would have been granted authority to arrest any non-U.S. citizens who enter Arizona from anywhere but a lawful entrance point, as well as those who have already been removed from our country or denied entry, and those who have previously been ordered to leave but refuse to comply.

“The heart-wrenching February 22nd murder of Georgia nursing student Laken Riley happened at the hands of a criminal who entered our country illegally. Arizona families are being torn apart by similar devastation,” said Shamp. “The Legislature did its job to protect our citizens, but Governor Hobbs failed to do hers. Vetoing the Arizona Border Invasion Act is a prime example of the chaos Hobbs is unleashing in our state while perpetuating this open border crisis as Biden’s accomplice. Arizonans want and deserve safe communities. Our local, county, and state law enforcement officers are pleading for help, and they support this legislation to protect our citizens. Their blood, sweat, and tears shed while trying to keep our communities safe from the staggering number of border-related crimes hitting our state will not be in vain. The Republican-controlled Legislature will continue to prioritize closing our border and providing law enforcement with the tools they need. This veto is a slap in the face to them, Arizona’s victims of border-related crimes, and other citizens who will inevitably feel the wrath of this border invasion in one way, shape, or form at the hands of Hobbs and Biden.”

  1. When you live in a country where one can be arrested for fishing without a license but not be arrested for entering the country illegally, your country is run by idiots.

  2. Hobbs, you bitch! You have never cared for Arizona, you only care for your standing with the fecal mess that is the corrupt Biden regime. K.Hobbs, you are a disgusting piece of fecal matter that needs to be wiped off the bottom of the shoes of Arizona.
You weren’t event fairly elected. RESIGN!!!!

  3. What about the woman attacked in her back yard last week? Attacked by Joe Gasca Fernandez, 38,? It was on the KGUN news this morning. North Swan and Pima.
It’s been said many of these illegal aliens will be desperate when their money runs out, so we will be easy prey! No protections for us huh?
Well I’ll protect myself anyway I see fit.

  4. Well, don’t you have enough votes to OVER RIDE her veto? Or are you just going to do the same thing you always do? Sit on you back side and say we tried!

  5. Where’s the actual evidence border crossers commit most of the crimes in our communities? It’s just a typical political scare tactic.

    • So it has to be MOST before you get on board? OK, then… we’ll wait until it’s YOUR family that’s affected.

    • 1) I have to agree with MJ; ‘most’ is far too high a bar,
      2) ‘border crosser’ _intentionally_ dishonestly conflates those lawfully in the country with those unlawfully in the country; talk about political tactics, and
      3) the three laws stated in the article are just common sense that anyone who has travelled internationally would expect of any country, anywhere.

    • Where is your proof that it is not the case? You want evidence but give none to the contrary!

    • Venezuela’s violent Tren de Aragua gang is here and growing. Don’t be in denial just because your friends and family aren’t affected yet.

  6. well the 1st thing to do is QUIT calling these idiots ‘leaders’ as they are anything but. Too many people beleived in a red wave in 22 because the propaganda arm sold it to them. They sat back on their asses and said let someone else vote as we have a sure thing. Well the same is happening again but this time the right is telling folks to be aware of the lies the deminazi party uses and that theya re on the same track asin ’22. They will lull you to sleep with the sound of freedom only to let you wake up to more terrors that they provide. Yes trump is leading but the left is starting their campaign of deceit already. Do as they do VOTE and mail in EARLY not in a drop box. Take it IN to the PO and deposit it in the out bax IN THE PO. We are seeing the rise of the nazi party of the 20-40’s again and its in the lefts hands as it was then and it will have the same results if allowed to grow. So get off your asses and be vocal and VOTE.

  7. So where’s our Reps? Do they have the cojones to pass it anyway? Whom did Az elect? Lefties? Righties? Close and protect US borders! It’s the right thing to do!

  8. Hobbs pretends to a governor of and by the people of Arizona. But the entire state has experienced the growing influence of the globalist agenda. If we are legal residents and citizens Hobbs views us as wrong minded. If we expect laws of our state and America to be enforced by the representative state government including her- we are again wrong minded. She will always be a useful idiot to the globalist elite and ignore the oath she took to the people of Arizona. Her mission is to support objective is aimed at growing government control of over lives of citizens, small businesses and industries. Crimes against American society are either ignored or dismissed as caused by a certain political ideology-system-party. Whatever excuse works – as long as globalism destroys the sovereignty of America and growing controls are acceptable to mitigate chaos and societal collapse. Please vote to save Arizona from those who allow globalization of our state.

  9. No surprise here. Hobbs, like most of the party, don’t care one bit about AZ citizens, the crimes they will endure, the financial and logistical burdens we have to face due to our federal government’s anarchy. In her mind, we deserve it and the invaders are the true victims.

  10. I didn’t see anywhere in this article a response from Hobbs as to why she vetoed this legislation

    • A dictatorship? Not yet. But if the people continue to vote for a party that wants to stifle free speech, restrict freedom of travel by mandating electric vehicles and are pushing for civilian disarmament, we will have it. We have as ‘leaders’ in this country that by their actions, or inactions, care nothing about public safety. They want nothing more than total political power.

  11. It is Arizona’s right and duty to protect its border. We are a sovereign state, as are the other states. If one reads the Arizona State Constitution, one can see this. WE control our own border, *not* the feds. Hence, Sheriffs and other ‘law enforcement’ personnel already have the ability to arrest illegal aliens, both for illegal entry, and/or for crimes committed here.
Yet, here we are, with the occupant of the governor’s office unwilling to codify existing law…and legislators seemingly unfamiliar withy our own Constitution.
