Police Investigating Death Of Jaywalker In South Phoenix

Phoenix Police detectives are investigating a fatal collision involving an adult female jaywalker and a passenger car early Friday morning in South Phoenix.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, in the early morning hours of Friday March 22, 2024, officers were called to a collision near 36th Avenue and Baseline Road. Officers and Fire personnel responded to the scene and found 21-year-old, Jaylynn James suffering from critical injuries. Emergency medical treatment was provided; however, James was not able to survive her injuries.

The adult male driver of the involved car was interviewed and showed no signs of impairment.

Detectives learned that James was attempting to walk across Baseline Road outside all marked crosswalks when she was hit
by a car driving west.
