
Phoenix police detectives are investigate near fatal drowning after tragic accident involving an 11-year-old child.
According to the Phoenix Police Department, on May 19, 2024, around 3:00 p.m., officers responded along with Phoenix fire to the area of 1500 W Whitton Avenue for reports of a drowning. The child was removed from the pool by a family member and CPR was initiated, the child was transported to the hospital in critical condition.
The child remains in critical/life-threatening condition.
Detectives learned the child was in the swimming pool playing a volleyball game with others when someone noticed the child was submerged underwater. A family member jumped into the pool and found her hair was caught on an underwater pool fixture. With assistance from other adults the child was freed and removed from the pool. CPR was immediately started, and several people called 911.
The scene was consistent with an accidental drowning there were no signs of foul play.
The child is reported as a strong swimmer and the Department says this is an extremely tragic accident.
