Phoenix Police Investigating Bias-Related Criminal Damage Of Vehicles

Phoenix Police detectives are investigating multiple incidents of criminal damage, many of which they say have a “bias element,” in a Central Phoenix neighborhood.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, on June 19, 2024, officers responded to several homes the area between 22nd Street and 32nd Street and between McDowell Road and Thomas Road. These calls for service were all related to criminal damage of vehicles at these homes that occurred overnight. Each of these incidents were determined to have bias elements. Detectives immediately began investigating these related incidents.

The, on June 22, 2024, officers again responded to several homes in the same area, again with criminal damage reports of vehicle at these homes. One of these cases has been determined to be bias in nature. In total there have been nine reported vehicles damaged that have been related to this series, with seven of these having a bias element involved. Six of these incidents occurred overnight on June 18th and the other three overnight on June 21st.

The Phoenix Police Department is seeking the help of residents in this area, or surrounding neighborhoods. If anyone has information related to this series of crimes, to include exterior surveillance video, they are asked to contact the Phoenix Police Department.

  1. What kind of “bias” was involved? Was it racial, political, religious or it could have been any number of other reasons these vehicles were damaged.
